Jardín de la Emancipación

Emancipation Garden (Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas) – for those passing through this part of the island’s capital, this garden, built to mark the 150th anniversary of the end of slavery in the Virgin Islands (1848), includes a bronze bust of a freed slave blowing a conch shell, as well as two reminders of the island’s past & present rulers: a bust of Denmark’s King Christian, and a scaled-down version of the U.S. Liberty Bell. The gazebo seen in this garden is used for official ceremonies.
